The author starts out from the four-dimensional unit sphere \(S^4\) with its standard Riemannian metric. Instead of slicing \(S^4\) into three-dimensional spheres \(S^3\) he considers an alternative slicing into homogeneous manifolds \(S^3/D^*_8\). Here \(D_8^*\) denotes the binary dihedral group of eight elements. As \(S^4\) is an Einstein manifold, it satisfies the Euclidean analogue of the vacuum Einstein equation with cosmological constant. In this sense, the resulting geometry can be viewed as a Euclidean Bianchi type IX cosmological model. The motivation for studying this geometry comes from quantum gravity.
