The authors consider distribution measures for point sets on the sphere. They point out connections between the equidistribution and the quality of a corresponding quadrature formula. Furthermore they give discrepancy estimates in terms of bounds for Newtonian potentials. The proofs make use of interesting techniques from spherical harmonics.
