This paper is a brief review of the relationship between A-stability and B-stability for Runge-Kutta methods based on the so-called W- transformation. However, this relationship is treated in a new way by the introduction of the concept of an exact Runge-Kutta method, which leads to a new interpretation of the W-transformation.
