The authors examine the existence and nonuniqueness of various wave modes in a thin flowing layer of viscous fluid with a free surface. Numerical solutions are obtained for solitary waves, step waves (hydraulic compression/rarefaction jumps); and solutions that go over asymptotically to a periodic wave from an unperturbed layer. The phase velocity of the waves is plotted against a parameter characterizing the properties of the liquid and the flow.
