Fuzzy modelling with tolerances (Q1820094)

Given are fuzzy sets \(X_ i\), \b{Y}\({}_ i\), \(\bar Y{}_ i\) (\b{Y}\({}_ i\subset \bar Y_ i)\), \(i=1,2,...,N\) defined in finite spaces \(X_ i:\) \b{X}\(\to [0,1]\), \b{Y}\({}_ i,\bar Y_ i:\) \b{Y}\(\to [0,1]\). Discussed is a problem of solving a system of fuzzy relational inequalities (fuzzy equations with tolerances), \b{Y}\({}_ i\subset X_ i\circ R\subset \bar Y_ i\) viz. \b{Y}\({}_ i(y)\leq \max_{x\in \bar X}[X_ i(x)tR(x,y)]\leq \bar Y_ i(y)\) (where t denotes a continuous triangular norm) with respect to an unknown fuzzy relation \(R: x\times y\to [0,1]\). A characterization of a family of solutions of the problem is also provided. The relevance of the obtained results to linguistic modelling is pointed out.
