Let \(\mu\) be a weight measure, that is, a unit Borel measure on \(I=[- 1,1]\) whose support S(\(\mu)\) is an infinite set. This paper is concerned with the polynomials \(P_ n\) (of degree n with unit leading coefficient) and constants \(N_ n\) such that \(\int P_ mP_ nd\mu =\delta_{m,n}N^ 2_ n.\) Particular attention is paid to \(\{\lambda_ n\}\), where \(\lambda_ n=N_ n^{1/n}\). Let \(\bar C\) be the logarithmic capacity of S(\(\mu)\), and let \b{C} be the infimum of the inner capacities of all Borel carriers of \(\mu\). It is possible to have \b{C}\(<\bar C\), as was shown by \textit{J. L. Ullman} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 24, 119-148 (1972; Zbl 0232.33007)]. The main results of the present paper are as follows. If \b{C}\(<C_ 1<C_ 2<\bar C\), then there is a weight measure \(\nu\), whose Borel carriers are the same as those of \(\mu\), such that lim inf\(\lambda\) \({}_ n(\nu)\leq C_ 1\) and lim sup\(\lambda\) \({}_ n(\nu)\geq C_ 2\). If \(\{\lambda_ n(\mu)\}\) does not converge, then its set of limit points is an interval.
