On the determination of Harish-Chandra's \(\beta\)-function (Q1820352)

A relatively simple calculation, based on known properties of the kernel of the heat equation on the symmetric space G/K, gives the normalization constant in Harish-Chandra's inversion formula for spherical functions on a semisimple Lie group G. As noted by the author, a somewhat similar derivation is given by \textit{R. Mneimné} [Bull. Sci. Math., II. Sér. 107, 261-287 (1983; Zbl 0561.22012)], and a different one by \textit{J. Rosenberg} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 63, 143-149 (1977; Zbl 0322.43008)].
