The paper deals with the question of embedding locally generalized projective lattices in generalized projective lattices. The motivation for the work is, however, mostly geometrical. A geometry is called generalized if lines are allowed to lie on two points only instead of at least three in a projective geometry. A lattice is said to be locally (generalized) projective if for all points p, each interval [p,1] is the lattice of a (generalized) projective space, where 1 stands for the element of rank n. A mapping from one lattice into another is called a strong embedding if it is rank- and join-preserving. The author shows that two geometric conditions, I and II, are necessary and sufficient for the existence of a strong embedding of a semimodular locally generalized projective lattice of rank \(\geq 4\) in which there is a point outside each plane, into a modular lattice of the same rank. Both conditions deal with incidence of points, lines, and planes. Condition I is the classical ''Bundle Theorem''. Finally, the author compares her own embedding theorem with previous results, in particular those by \textit{J. Kahn} [Math. Z. 175, 219-247 (1980; Zbl 0433.06013)] and \textit{A. Herzer} [Proc. NATO Adv. Study Inst., Bad Windsheim/Ger., 373-400 (1981; Zbl 0473.51001)].
