    Let M be the centered box spline given by the directions \(T\subseteq Z^ d\) and let \({\mathcal A}=AZ^ d\subseteq Z^ d\) be a submodule of \(Z^ d\), where A is an invertible \(d\times d\) matrix. The authors define the cardinal interpolation problem for M on \({\mathcal A}(CIP_{{\mathcal A}})\) as follows: given the data \(c_{{\mathcal A}}=\{c_ j\}\in \ell^{\infty}({\mathcal A})\) find a sequence \(\{a_ j\}\in \ell^{\infty}({\mathcal A})\) such that \(S(x)=\sum_{j\in {\mathcal A}}a_ jM(x-j)\) and \(S|_{{\mathcal A}}=c_{{\mathcal A}}\). If this is always possible and the sequence \(\{a_ j\}\) is unique one says that \(CIP_{{\mathcal A}}\) is \(\ell^{\infty}\)-solvable. The authors investigate some questions related to \(CIP_{{\mathcal A}}\) and specialize them to the case of the bivariate 4-direction mesh, proving that \(CIP_{{\mathcal A}}\) is \(\ell^{\infty}\)-solvable for \({\mathcal A}=\{j=(k,\ell):k+\ell)\) even\(\}\).
