Problems connected with the description of equilibrium configuration of drops of liquid on a smooth horizontal plane are considered in this article. The variational analysis, based on the hypothesis \(F=-\nabla \phi\) \((F=areal\) density of resistance force, \(\phi =energy\) per unit area of wettled surface), is given. The particular case of symmetric drops on a horizontal plane in the presence of a resistance force is regarded. It is shown, that with increasing volume the constant angle eventually increases to F.
