The author considers waveguide fields when there is temporal periodic excitation and the initial field and rate of charge of field are given, being non zero. He shows that in general the field becomes periodic for large time, but that for certain values of the frequency, corresponding to eigenvalues of the Helmholtz equation, a secular term occurs in the solution. He discusses the resolvents and spectral families associated with both the Dirichlet and Neumann conditions on the waveguide wall, and indicates how the results can be applied to a semi infinite cylinder. The treatment is more abstract than would be expected from the title of the paper and no examples of an actual waveguide problem are given.
