In the space \(X=C(K)\) of real continuous functions on a (bi-) compactum K let \(\{g_ i\}^ n_ 1\) be a finite linearly independent system of functions and let G be its linear span. The author calls this system anti-Chebyshev if for every \(x\in X\setminus G\) there exist not less than two best approximation polynomials. The main results of the author are: a) The system \(\{g_ i\}^ n_ 1\) will be an anti-Chebyshev system if and only if G contains a polynomial that is nonzero at a unique point of compactum K. b) In C(K) there exists an anti-Chebyshev system if and only if K has an isolated point.
