A cobordism obstruction to embedding manifolds (Q1822100)

The main result of this paper is that real projective space of dimension \(2(m+\alpha (m)-1)\) does not embed in Euclidean space of dimension \(4m- 2\alpha (m)+1\). This is, of course, the nonembedding version of \textit{D. M. Davis}' non-immersion theorem [Ann. Math., II. Ser. 120, 517-528 (1984; Zbl 0574.57014)]. The proof is based upon a vanishing theorem for an Euler class in complex cobordism when an appropriate compact stably almost complex manifold is embedded in Euclidean space.
