Finding singular points of two-point boundary value problems (Q1822467)

Singularity and bifurcation theories are often considered for the study of some physical systems involving multiple solutions. The paper uses Keller's shooting method to find singularities of a nonlinear two-point boundary value problem with unmixed boundary conditions. It is an extension of the works of \textit{Michelsen} and \textit{Villadsen} [Chem. Eng. Sci. 27, 751 (1972)], \textit{M. Kubicek} and \textit{V. Hlavacek} [J. Comput. Phys. 17, 79-86 (1975; Zbl 0303.65096)] and \textit{B. Eaton} and \textit{K. Gustafson} [ibid. 50, 171-177 (1983; Zbl 0512.65066)]. The main advantage of the present approach is that it can be applied directly to find singularities of higher codimension. An example is given which illustrates the technique proposed, involving two butterfly points.
