The paper contains considerations to the classical light field theory in \({\mathbb{R}}^ d\) (d\(\geq 2)\). More precisely, the indicatrix, light vector, illumination distribution solid and spatial brightness of \(x\in {\mathbb{R}}^ d\) are deduced by means of methods from geometric convexity, where the support functions of zonotopes and zonoids (i.e. vector sums or integrals of line segments) play an important role. On that base a lucid, homogeneous description of the mentioned notions is obtained, leading to new possibilities for solving (e.g. optimization) problems from illumination theory.
