On central multipliers for compact Lie groups (Q1823414)

We prove a Marcinkiewicz type multiplier theorem for central functions on compact simple simply connected Lie groups, then we improve a result of \textit{C. Meaney} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 286, 665-674 (1984; Zbl 0561.43003)] related to the existence of multipliers for central \(L^ p\)- functions which are not multipliers for the whole of \(L^ p\). The proofs depend on an argument developed by \textit{L. Colzani}, \textit{S. Giulini} and the author [Math. Ann. 285, 75-84 (1989; Zbl 0662.43006)].
