Some variants of Ferrers diagrams (Q1823941)

In this paper, the author has considered variants of Ferrers diagrams in which the underlying square grid is replaced by other regular patterns in the plane. These diagrams turn out to be related to classical identities of Euler, Sylvester, Glaisher and MacMahon as well as more recent results of Göllnitz, Gordon and Andrews. Some new identities are also obtained. The goal in each case is to enumerate the variant diagrams via generating functions. Several well-known partition identities show unexpected relevance to these enumeration problems and conversely. This leads to combinatorial proofs of identities that were obtained only analytically. The Ferrers diagrams and their variants are regarded as lower ideals of partially ordered sets.
