Let (q,I) be a classical central illumination in \({\mathbb{E}}^ d\) (d\(\geq 2)\), i.e. \(q\in {\mathbb{R}}^ d\) presents the light source q and \(I>0\) its luminous intensity, homogeneously distributed over all directions. Using the d-dimensional analogy of the photometric distance law, the planar carrier sets of isophotic area elements with respect to (q,I) are investigated, where these area elements (1) have a fixed position or (2) form planar strips. It is shown that these carrier curves (extendable to surfaces by suitable motions) for (1) are Clairaut multiplicatrices, well-known from the graphic doubling of the cube and various applications in physics, and for (2) are sine spirals, which are characterized by the remarkable property that a constant angular velocity of the radius vector implies a constant angular velocity of the corresponding tangent vector.
