Suppose that N(z), D(z) are functions analytic in the unit disc \(\Delta\), \(N(0)=D(0)=0\) and that D(z) maps \(\Delta\) onto a domain starlike w.r.t. the origin. The subject of this paper is to impose a sufficient condition on D(z) which guarantee that the implication \[ Re\{N'(z)/D'(z)\}>0\quad \Rightarrow \quad Re\{N(z)/D(z)\}>\alpha >0 \] holds in \(\Delta\). This is a generalization of an earlier result due to \textit{R. Libera} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 16, 755-781 (1965; Zbl 0158.077)]. The proof is based on a result due to \textit{Z. Lewandowski}, \textit{S. Miller} and \textit{E. Złotkiewicz} [ibid. 56, 111-117 (1976; Zbl 0298.30008)]. Some applications are given.
