Subsolutions, supersolutions, and asymptotic behavior of an evolution problem with unilateral constraint (Q1825428)

We study here the asymptotic behavior of the solutions of a parabolic nonlinear variational inequality associated with an obstacle problem. We extend to the case of inequalities, classical methods and well-known results for equations. First we introduce two definitions of sub- and super-solutions; one is adapted to the elliptic variational inequality, the other to the parabolic variational inequality. Then, using comparison principles, we prove, for various initial data, the convergence of the solutions of the evolution problem, the limits of which are solutions of the associated stationary problem.
