The set of all physical quantities is conceived as a (multiplicatively written) vector space; it sits in the middle of a short exact sequence, with the set of pure quantities, and the set of physical dimensions, respectively, as the two ends. Invariants of the group of (end-fixing) automorphisms of this structure are studied and characterized by a theorem which is a purely mathematical form of the pi-theorem of dimensional analysis.
