    The author investigates the growth of the \(L^{\infty}(\Omega)\) norm of weak solutions to the problem. \[ \partial u/\partial t=\nabla \cdot {\mathcal M}(x,t,u,\nabla u)+{\mathcal F}(x,t,u),\quad x\in \Omega,\quad t>0, \] with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, and with \({\mathcal F}(x,t,u)\) possibly depending functionally upon u(\(\cdot,t)\). It is shown that if \(\| {\mathcal F}(\cdot,t,u)\|_{\infty}\leq g(t)f(\| u(\cdot,t)\|_{\infty})\) with \(f'\geq 0\), then \[ \int^{\| u(\cdot,t)\|_{\infty}}_{\| u(\cdot,0)\|_{\infty}}d\sigma /f(\sigma)\quad \leq \quad \mu ({\mathcal F})\int^{t}_{0}g(\tau) d(\tau) \] where \(\mu\) (\({\mathcal F})\geq 0\), is a number which depends on \({\mathcal F};\mu ({\mathcal F})=1\) if \({\mathcal F}\) depends locally on u if f can be taken to have at most polynomial growth.
