Let X be a real Banach space and (\(\Omega\),\(\mu)\) a finite measure space. If \(\phi\) is a modulus function, i.e. an increasing subadditive continuous function on [0,\(\infty [\) with \(\phi (0)=0\), then \(L^{\phi}(\mu,X)=\{f: \Omega \to X:\) \(\| f\|_{\phi}=\int \phi (\| f(t)\|)d\mu (t)<\infty \}\). \(L^{\phi}(\mu,X)\) is complete metric linear space and, in general, it is not locally convex. One of the main results of this paper is the following statement: for a closed subspace Y of X, \(L^{\phi}(\mu,Y)\) is proximinal in \(L^{\phi}(\mu,X)\) if and only if \(L^ 1(\mu,Y)\) is proximinal in \(L^ 1(\mu,X)\). Hence if Y is a reflexive subspace of X and \(\phi (x)=x^ p\) \((0<p\leq 1)\), then \(L^ p(\mu,Y)\) is proximinal in \(L^ p(\mu,X)\) for all \(0<p<1\). Other results on proximinality of subsets of \(L^{\phi}(\mu,X)\) are presented as well.
