The author has proved the freeness of the point spectrum for an operator of nearest neighbour type on a tree, which is quasi homogeneous. Let T be a connected, locally finite tree with the set of vertices V(T) and the set of edges E(T). Let A be a symmetric operator on \(\ell^ 2(T)\), the space of square summable complex valued functions on V(T): \[ Au(x)=\sum a_{x,x'}u(x')+a_{x,x}u(x),\quad with\quad a_{x,x}\quad and\quad a_{x,x'}\in {\mathbb{R}},\quad where\quad x'\quad runs\quad over\quad the\quad set\quad of\quad vertices\quad adjacent\quad to\quad x. \] Assume: (i) \(a_{x,x'}\neq 0\) for all \(x,x'\). (ii) A discrete group of automorphisms G acts on fix point-freely on T and the quotient \(\Gamma =G\setminus T\) is a finite graph. The operator A is invariant under the action of G. The main theorem is as follows: Theorem. If \(\Gamma\) is regular, i.e. if there is an equal number (greater than 1) of edges in \(\Gamma\) emanating from each vertex in V(\(\Gamma)\), then the operator A is point spectrum free on \(\ell^ 2(T).\) Since the Green kernel of A is algebraic in the spectral variable, A has a finite number of bands of absolutely continuous spectra. This is a generalization of the result due to P. van Moerbeke on a one dimensional lattice. When \(\Gamma\) consists of a point, the Theorem reduces to the earlier results obtained by the author, T. Steger and others.
