Experiments show that thermal and chemical effects have a strong influence on flame inhibition and quenching of flames. The authors present a simple model and analyse it to determine the contribution of thermal and chemical effects to flame inhibition by heat loss. The study shows that the radical scavenger will have a strong additional inhibitory effect on flame propagation. The endothermic decomposition of an inhibitory species and the removal of the active radical by a scavenger species have decelerating effect on exothermic combustion reaction. The investigations are confined to the unit Lewis numbers. The paper makes an interesting reading
