The authors prove important propositions about integral operators with general kernels on weighted \(L_p\)-spaces. These results are applied to integral operators with complex Gaussian kernels and to the familiar index transforms. Namely, the boundedness theorems are proved for the Kontorovich-Lebedev, Mehler-Fock transforms and the \({_2F_1}\)-index or the Olevskii transform. We note that these results complete a variety of mapping properties for the index transforms established by the reviewer in early works [see for instance \textit{S. B. Yakubovich}, Index transforms (World Scientific, London) (1996; Zbl 0845.44001); \textit{S. B. Yakubovich} and \textit{M. Saigo}, Math. Nachr. 185, 261--277 (1997; Zbl 0873.44002); \textit{S. B.
