The paper is concerned with the sequence of linear positive operators introduced by \textit{P. N. Agrawal} and \textit{K. J. Thamar} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 225, 660--672 (1998; Zbl 0918.41021)]. The author obtains the rate of pointwise convergence of these operators on bounded variation functions at those points at which one-sided limits exist. The Chanturiya's modulus of variation and some results from Probability Theory are used. In the final section the Bézier variant of the operators is introduced. Examples and open problems are presented.
