A polynomial \(p_{n}(x)\; (n\in \mathbb{N}, x\in \mathbb{C})\) is said a quasi monomial whenever two operators \(\widehat{M}\) and \(\widehat{P}\), called multiplication and derivative operators, can be defined in such a way that \(\widehat{M}p_{n}(x)=p_{n+1}(x) \), \(\widehat{P}p_{n}(x)=np_{n-1}(x)\). By denoting by \(\widehat{A}^{+}\), the Hermitian conjugate of the operator \(\widehat{A}\), the functions \(g_{n}(x)\) satisfying the equations \(\widehat{P}^{+}\widehat{M}^{+}g_{n}(x)=ng_{n}(x)\), are called the bi-orthogonal adjoint to \(p_{n}(x)\). Applying the monomiality principle to Hermite polynomials \(H_{n}(x,y)=n!\sum_{r=0}^{[n/2]}\frac{y^rx^{n-2r}}{r!(n-2r)!}\) and Laguerre polynomials \(\mathcal{L}_{n}(x,y)=n!\sum_{r=0}^{n}\frac{(-1)^{r}y^{n-r}x^{r}}{(r!)^2(n-r)!}\) the authors prove several properties of the polynomials and of the associated bi-orthogonal functions.
