\textit{S. Chakraborty} and \textit{B. V. Rao} [Probability, statistics and their applications: Papers in honor of Rabi Bhattacharya. Beachwood, OH: IMS, Institute of Mathematical Statistics. IMS Lect. Notes, Monogr. Ser. 41, 49--64 (2003; Zbl 1050.60072)] proposed \(\theta\)-expansion and a generalized Gauss map \(T_\theta: [0,\theta) \to [0,\theta)\) associated with them; \[ T_\theta(x) = \frac{1}{x} - \theta \left[\frac{1}{\theta x}\right], \quad x \not= 0; \quad T_\theta(0) = 0. \] The usual continued fraction expansions correspond to \(\theta = 1\). The invariant measure for the generalized Gauss map \(T_\theta\) for \(\theta=\sqrt{1/m}\) is given by \[ \frac{1}{\log(1+\theta^2)}\frac{\theta\, dx}{1+\theta x}. \] This has a connection with geodesics on the upper half plane, though no discrete group playing the role of \(\text{SL}(2,\mathbb Z)\) has been found. A problem of convergence in distribution related to the coefficients of a continued fraction is also studied.
