For simply connected solvable Lie groups \textit{V. M. Gichev} [Sib. Math. J. 30, 44-53 (1989); translation from Sib. Mat. Zh. 30, 57-69 (1989; Zbl 0681.22016)] and \textit{K.-H. Neeb} [Diploma Thesis, Technische Hochschule, Darmstadt (1988)] found independently that a simply connected solvable Lie group admits a (bi-)invariant continuous order if and only if its Lie algebra contains a pointed generating invariant cone. In the paper under review the author gives a characterization of those reductive or solvable connected, not necessarily simply connected, Lie groups which permit a non-degenerate group order.
