The author develops stability criteria for matrix differential equations in terms of matrix Lyapunov functions and matrix valued norm. For this purpose, necessary matrix differential inequalities, existence of extremal solutions and comparison results are proved. An example is given to illustrate the advantage of using matrix Lyapunov functions and matrix valued norm over the method of vector Lyapunov functions.
