Relaxed exact controllability and asymptotic limits for thin shells are presented. The system of differential equations which describes the problem is: \(\nu_{tt}+ A^\varepsilon \nu=0\) in \(\Omega\), \(B^\varepsilon \nu=0\) on \(\partial\Omega\) and the initial conditions: \(\nu(0)= \nu^0\), \(\nu_t(0)= \nu^1\), where \(A^\varepsilon= A^0+\varepsilon A^1\) is a linear, self adjoint Douglas-Nirenberg elliptic operator of mixed order which depends on the shell thinness parameter \(\varepsilon>0\), and \(B^\varepsilon= \{B^0,\sqrt \varepsilon B^1\}\) is a system of normal boundary conditions. The operator \(A^\varepsilon\) is associated with a symmetric sesquilinear form: \(a^\varepsilon (u,\nu)= a^0(u,\nu) +\varepsilon a^1(u,\nu)\), which we assume to be continuous and coercive in a Hilbert space \(V\subset H\). The authors indicate the subspaces in which they can construct control functions and which allow them to look at the asymptotic limit. They show that since the problem depends on the geometry of the shell and the selected boundary control action, specific results for elastic hemispherical shells are obtained.
