The author considers a system consisting of the viscous Burgers equation coupled to a kinetic equation. This system models the motion of a dispersed phase made of inertial particles immersed in a fluid modelled by the Burgers equation. The term `dispersed' means here that one of the two phases, though possibly present in all the physical domain, occupies locally only a small fraction of the total volume of the system. In environmental applications, the transport of particles in the ocean or in the atmosphere is often considered. Here, the dispersed phase may be solid particles (sand, pollutants, etc). The existence, uniqueness and longtime behaviour of solutions are studied. In particular, it is proved that the usual stability properties of travelling waves for the viscous Burgers equation are not affected by the coupling with a small mass of inertial particles. Besides, the limiting case, where the particles are regarded as point particles, is taken into account.
