The authors of the present paper give an analogue of a classical theorem of Dirichlet for the geometrically finite pinched negatively curved Riemannian manifold \(M\) with at least one cusp. Introducing a new notion of depth of rational line they define a new invariant for \(M\), the Hurwitz constant. The last is the generalization of the classical Hurwitz constant for the approximation of real numbers by rational ones. The authors construct an explicit good approximation to any irrational line starting from the cusp by rational one and characterize the endpoints of the irrational lines by geometrical data obtained from the manifold.
