The authors examine the time-delay digital tanlock loop (TDTL), a relatively new non-uniform sampling digital phase-locked loop. The performance of first- and second-order TDTLs is analyzed in the presence of additive Gaussian noise for different values of the loop parameters. In a general section the authors describe the TDTL structure, the system equation and relevant main locking conditions. The system performance is then analyzed, and it is shown that the phase at the output of the phase error detector can be represented by the noisefree phase plus a non-Gaussian phase error. Use is made of the Cramer-Rao bound.
