Let \(k\) be a field of positive characteristic \(p\) and \(k[X]=k[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) a polynomial algebra. Denote by \(\Delta(k[X])\) the algebra of differential operators in \(k[X]\), i.e. the subalgebra in \(\text{End }k[X]\) generated by \(x_1,\dots,x_n,\tfrac{\partial_1}{\partial x_1},\dots,\tfrac{\partial_n}{\partial x_n}\). It is shown that irreducible representations of \(\Delta(k[X])\) and of the Weyl algebra \(A_n(k)\) have finite dimension. If \(n=1\) then there is given a classification of irreducible representations of \(\Delta(k[X])\) in the case of an algebraically closed field \(k\).
