Let \(X\) be a separable metric space in which every nonempty closed subspace is a Baire space (e.g., a Polish space). The paper contains a characterization of the additive group \(G(QU)\) generated by the set \(QU\) of quasicontinuous functions \(f: X\to\mathbb{R}\), with closed graph. It is proved that \[ G(QU)= B^*_1= P= QU+ QU+ QU, \] where \(P\) stands for the space of piecewise-continuous functions. It is explained by examples that the assumption on \(X\) cannot be relaxed and that the sum of three functions cannot be replaced by the sum of two functions: \(QU+ QU\neq B^*_1\) despite of the facts that every \(B^*_1\)-function on a metric space is the sum of two functions with closed graphs and that every \(B^*_1\)-function is the sum of two quasicontinuous functions.
