The author investigates the fundamental solutions of transient 2D and 3D piezoelectrics for the crystal symmetry 6mm. The presented model is an extension of an earlier simplified model by \textit{S. Li} [Z. Angew. Math. Phys. 51, No. 2, 236--266 (2000; Zbl 1005.74032)] for the half-space subjected to mixed anti-plane/in-plane electrical line sources, under ``electrically irrotational approximation''. Assumption of an average dielectric tensor for the medium, together with Lorentz gauge invariance allows to reduce the system of coupled electromechanical equations to a simplified hyperbolic system of partial differential equations, thus guaranteeing the uniqueness of solution. This is further reduced to a system of algebraic equations by the use of Laplace and triple Fourier transforms. The inversion formulae are then used in combination with residue calculations to reach the full solution of the problem. Concrete examples are considered for the poled ceramic BaTiO\(_{3}\) and the crystal ZnO. Numerical results are given, and curves for some displacement components and for the electric potential are presented. The author performs an assessment of the used approximation and reaches the conclusion that the average dielectric tensor approximation results in some loss of accuracy for the electric potential.
