For \(\varphi:\mathbb{R} \to\mathbb{R}\), the two-coefficient dilation equation is \[ \varphi(x)= a\varphi(2x) +b\varphi (2x-1), \] with real coefficients \(a\) and \(b\). Let \(B_{a,b}\) denote the set of \(x\in [0,1]\) for which the only compact support solution of the functional equation bounded in a neighborhood of \(x\) is the zero function. Similarly define \(C_{a,b}\) to be the set of \(x\in[0,1]\) for which the only compact support solution of the functional equation continuous at \(x\) is the zero function; and, \(Z\), is the set of \(x\in [0,1]\) for which the only compact support solution of the functional equation which vanishes in a neighborhood of \(x\) is the zero function. These three sets are determined as is the general solution of compact support of the functional equation.
