For a normed space \(X\), a set \(B \subset X^\ast\) such that \(\inf\{\sup \{|f(x)|: f\in B\}: x\in S_X\} \geq \delta \) for some \(\delta >0\), is called a \(w^\ast\)-norming set for \(X\). A set which cannot be written as a countable increasing union of \(w^\ast\)-non-norming sets is called a \(w^\ast\)-thick set. One of the interesting results (Theorem 3.5) of this paper is the following variation on the uniform boundedness principle: every sequence \(\{x_n\}\subset X\) which is pointwise bounded on \(B\) is a bounded sequence if and only if \(B\) is a \(w^\ast\)-thick set. Analogous to certain surjectivity results studied by \textit{M. I. Kadets} and \textit{V. P. Fonf} [Funct. Anal. Appl. 17, 227-228 (1983); translation from Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 17, No. 3, 77-78 (1983; Zbl 0528.46013)], the author relates the surjectivity of adjoint operators to \(w^\ast\)-thickness when he proves (Theorem 4.8): \(B\subset X^\ast\) is \(w^\ast\)-thick if and only if every operator \(T^\ast: Y^\ast\rightarrow X^\ast\) such that \(T^\ast(Y^\ast)\supset B\), is onto, for all \(Y\).
