Harmonic analysis of signed Ruelle transfer operators (Q1856806)

Let \(U,V\) denote two unitary operators for which \(UVU^{-1}=V^N\) for some integer \(N\geq 2\), and let \({\mathcal U}_N\) denote the \(C^*\)-algebra generated by \(U,V\). The paper shows that there is a one-to-one correspondence between operators intertwining a certain class of representations on \({\mathcal U}_N\) and fixed-points for a certain Ruelle operator. In some cases this leads to a method for finding the fixed-points for the Ruelle operator. As an application a criterion for biorthonormality of a pair of scaling functions is given.
