The double zeta-function of Barnes \(\zeta_2(v;z,w)\) is defined by the analytic continuation of \[ \sum_{m=0}^\infty \sum_{n=0}^\infty (z +m+nw)^{-v}, \] the series being convergent for \(\Re z, \Re w > 0\) and \(\Re v > 2\). Analytic continuation and asymptotic expansions for the above zeta-function and some other related multiple zeta-functions have been obtained in recent times by several authors, most notably by \textit{K. Matsumoto} [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 123, 385-405 (1998; Zbl 0903.11021), Corrigendum and Addendum in ibid. 132, No.~2, 377-384 (2002; Zbl 1051.11507), Anal. Probab. Methods Number Theory (eds. A. Dubickas et al.), TEV, Vilnius, 188-194 (2002)]. In the present paper two integral representations for \(\zeta_2(v;z,w)\) are obtained, and six asymptotic expansions for large and small \(w\) or \(z\) are derived from these integrals. The expansions obtained by the authors are said to be alternative to Matsumoto's expansions and are valid in a larger domain of \(z\) and \(v\). The starting point is the loop integral representation for the gamma-function (Hankel's contour) by which \(\zeta_2(v;z,w)\) is transformed into a relatively simple integral which is then further transformed. The paper ends with 13 tables of numerical experiments about the approximation supplied by the authors' theorems and the accuracy of the error terms.
