A left (resp. right) ideal \({\mathcal J}\) in a nest algebra \({\mathcal T}({\mathcal N})\) is of radical-type if the intersection of \({\mathcal J}\) with the compact operators equals the intersection of the Jacobson radical of \({\mathcal T}({\mathcal N})\) with the compact operators. The geometric rank of a subset of the unit ball of a Banach space was introduced in [\textit{M. Anoussis} and \textit{E. G. Katsoulis}, Indiana Univ. Math. J. 46, 319--336 (1997; Zbl 0893.47027)]. This paper is concerned with isometries of radical-type left ideals in a nest algebra and the geometric rank of finite rank operators contained in such ideals. The paper characterizes when a finite rank operator in a radical-type left ideal \({\mathcal J}\) in a nest algebra has finite geometric rank and gives bounds for the geometric rank of certain rank \(n\) operators in \({\mathcal J}\). These results are then used to describe linear isometries between radical-type left ideals in a nest algebra whose nest satisfies the dimension condition \(1\notin \{\dim(0_ +),\;\dim(I-I_ -)\}\).
