As the title suggests, this paper is on representations of \(G = GL_2(D)\), where \(D\) is a central division algebra over a \(p\)-adic field \(F\) of arbitrary characteristic. Let \((\pi,V)\) be an irreducible admissible infinite dimensional representation of \(G\). A canonical realization of \(V\) as a certain space \(K(\pi)\) of functions on \(D^*\) was given by \textit{D. Prasad} and \textit{A. Raghuram} [Duke Math. J. 104, No. 1, 19--44 (2000; Zbl 0958.22010)]. The paper under review considers the asymptotic behavior of functions in \(K(\pi)\). When \(D\) is a quaternion algebra over \(F\) and \(G = GL_n(D)\), the author proves that the contragredient of \(\pi\) is equivalent to the representation \(g \mapsto \pi(^T\!g^{-1})\). This result is analogous to the Gelfand-Kazhdan theorem for \(GL_n(F)\), and it was also proved by \textit{G. Muić} and \textit{G. Savin} [Can. Math. Bull. 43, No. 1, 90--99 (2000; Zbl 0945.22005)] for a quaternion algebra over a \(p\)-adic field of characteristic zero.
