The authors discuss the numerical simulation of the float zone (FZ) and the Czochralski (CZ) method of crystal growth. For the CZ-method, they consider the velocity and the temperature field in the melt and apply the Smagorinsky model of large eddy simulation. To model the FZ growth method the authors consider the Navier-Stokes equation coupled with a vector potential formulation of Maxwell's equations. The authors present various results of numerical simulations. For the CZ method the emphasis is on the influence of the Marangoni effect on the melt flow. In the FZ simulation special attention is paid to the effect of surface tension under microgravity. Unfortunately, the authors do not present the complete mathematical models for FZ and CZ crystal growth. Moreover they do not give details about the numerical methods used to produce the simulation results.
