In the case of the Euclidean space there is a well known theorem of Hardy which says that if \(f:\mathbb R\to\mathbb R\), \(|f(x)|\leq Ce^{-ax^2}\) and \(|\hat{f}(\xi)|\leq Ce^{-b\xi^2}\) and \(ab>1\slash 4\) then \(f=0\) almost everywhere. The result of \textit{M. G. Cowling} and \textit{J. F. Price} [Harmonic analysis, Proc. Conf., Cortona 1982, Lect. Notes Math. 992, 443-449 (1983; Zbl 0516.43002)] says that if \(1\leq p\leq q\leq\infty\) and one of them is finite, then \(\|e^{(\cdot)^2a}f(\cdot)\|_{L^p}<\infty,\) \(\|e^{(\cdot)^2b}\hat{f}(\cdot)\|_{L^q}<\infty\) and \(ab\geq 1\slash 4\) imply that \(f=0\) a.e. In the paper under review the authors give an analogue of this theorem for homogeneous vector bundles over Riemannian symmetric spaces and for connected noncompact semi-simple Lie groups with finite centre using the vector-valued Helgason-Fourier transform instead of the Fourier transform.
