The author studies the Sturm-Liouville boundary value problem associated to a strongly nonlinear second-order equation of the form \[ (\Phi_p(u'))'+\lambda h(t)f(u)=0,\quad p>1. \] The existence (for \(\lambda\) sufficiently small) of at least two positive solutions is proved. The function \(h\) may be singular and \(f\) is such that \(\lim_{u\to 0^+} f(u)=+\infty, \lim_{u\to +\infty} f(u)/u^{p-1}=+\infty\). The proof is performed by means of a fixed-point theorem in cones. For related and similar results, see \textit{A. K. Ben-Naoum} and \textit{C. De Coster} [Differ.
