The authors consider the singularity perturbed linear convection-diffusion equation on a square. They first develop a treatment (the continuous iterative Schwarz method) for the one-dimensional analogue by upwinding and point out the difficulties of this process. A method using Shishkin interface positions and artificial Dirichlet interface conditions is suggested which is essentially first order convergent. The treatment is abstract and no actual illustrations of solutions are considered.
