A subset \(X\) of the top dimensional faces of a simplicial complex \(P\) is called a Clar set (the name comes from theoretical Chemistry) if each vertex of \(P\) belongs to exactly one face from \(X\). This paper explores the existence of Clar sets on closed compact surfaces. The relationship between Clar sets and colorability is explored.
