The authors consider the following class of semi-linear functional integro-differential equations in a Banach space \[ x'(t)+A(t)x(t)=Bu(t)+f\left(t,x_{t},\int_{0}^{t}K(t,s,x_{s}) \,ds\right), \quad t\in J:=[0,T] \] \[ x(t)=\phi(t), \quad -r\leq t\leq 0, \] where the state \(x(t)\) takes values in a Banach space \(X,\) the control function \(u(\cdot)\) is given in \(L^2(J,U),\) a Banach space of admissible control functions, with \(U\) as a Banach space, \(\{A(t): t\geq 0\}\) is a family of unbounded linear operators which generates an analytic semigroup of linear operators \(Z(t),\) and \(B\) is a bounded linear operator from \(U\) into \(X.\) They provide sufficient conditions for the local controllability of the above system, by using the method of analytic semigroups, fractional powers of operators and Banach fixed point theorem. An application to a partial integrodifferential equation is also given.
